Jane Austen and the Gothic - Talk by Louise Robertson 1st July
The Hampstead Summer Fesitival 2026 includes 4 performances of a dramatisation of Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen.
As an introduction and to complement the play, we have arranged a talk by Louise Robertson, Chair of The Jane Austen Society, London Branch.
Her talk will focus on Jane Austen's interest in the Gorthic, a theme of Northanger Abbey.
Louise works in the heritage sector and is currently undertaking a Masters degree at the University of Cambridge in Building History.
She was appointed Chair of the Jane Austen Society, London Branch in December 2025. Louise is passionate about eighteenth century literature and architecture, which will be demonstrated in this talk.
